Day 1 — Arrival Srinagar · Dal Lake Check-In
Arrive Srinagar airport (SXR). Our driver meets you at arrivals — look for the Travel My Kashmir board. 25-minute transfer to Dal Lake. Houseboat check-in is available from 10 AM. Afternoon: Shikara ride on the lake (1.5 hours — non-negotiable, this sets the mood for the entire trip). Evening: walk on Boulevard Road along the lakeshore. Dinner on the houseboat — the kitchen will have been cooking since you called to confirm your arrival time.
Day 2 — Gulmarg Full Day (56 km from Dal Lake)
Depart 8:30 AM. Arrive Gulmarg by 10 AM. Gondola Phase 1 to Kongdori (2,600m), Gondola Phase 2 to Apharwat (3,979m / 13,054 ft) — snow is present year-round at Phase 2. Views of Nanga Parbat (8,126m) on a clear day to the northwest. Lunch near the gondola base station (several dhaba-style restaurants serve Kashmiri lunch, around ₹400–600/person). Return to Srinagar by 5:30–6 PM. Gondola tickets should be pre-booked — we handle this for our guests. Walk-up queues in peak season (April–June) can be 2 hours.
Day 3 — Pahalgam Full Day (96 km from Dal Lake)
Depart 8 AM — the drive to Pahalgam is longer and the valley is narrower. Pass Pampore saffron fields (worth a 10-minute stop in October during harvest season). Arrive Pahalgam by 10:30 AM. Betaab Valley (named after the 1983 Sunny Deol film shot here — the valley floor is flat, green, and cut by the Lidder River). Aru Village (12 km further — quieter, more authentic, the start of the Kolahoi Glacier trek route). Optional: pony or local jeep to Chandanwari. Lunch in Pahalgam town (try the trout from the Lidder River — local restaurants serve it fresh). Return by 6:30–7 PM.
Day 4 — Sonamarg Full Day (87 km from Dal Lake)
Depart 8 AM. Drive northeast through the Sind River valley — the road follows the river the entire way. Arrive Sonamarg by 10 AM. Thajwas Glacier (a short pony ride from the meadow or a 2km walk). Zero Point (accessible when Zoji La is open, May–October) — at 3,530m this is where the Ladakh landscape begins, stark and white, a preview of the high altitude desert beyond the pass. This day trip is often the one guests remember most vividly. Return by 6 PM.
Day 5 — Srinagar Old City · Shopping · Departure
Morning free in Srinagar. Old City circuit: Jama Masjid (one of Kashmir’s largest mosques, built 1394), Shah Hamdan Shrine (Khanqah-e-Moula), Jamia Bazaar for shopping. What to buy: Grade A Kashmiri saffron (₹250–350/gram at the market, same thing costs 3× at the airport), Pashmina shawls (ask for the burn test — real pashmina burns like hair, synthetic melts), walnut wood carvings, papier-mâché boxes. Transfer to SXR airport for your departure flight.

Tips for Making the Most of 4N5D
Start with Gulmarg on Day 2 (energy is highest early in the trip). Do Sonamarg on Day 4 rather than Day 3 — the drive back from Sonamarg is beautiful at golden hour and you will want to photograph it. Buy saffron on the last morning, not the first — you will have better price sense after 4 days. The Old City walk takes 2 hours minimum if you do it properly; leave by 8 AM on your last day to have time before the flight.
