Tempo Traveller in Kashmir 2026 | 12 & 17 Seater from ₹6,500/day

Travel My Country · 6 Force Travellers (12+17) + 2 Urbania luxury vans · all under 60,000 km · serviced at Force Hyderpora · +91-700 66 88 931

We drove a 15-member Delhi cousins’ group from Patnitop to Pahalgam in October 2025 in a Force Urbania. The roof carrier held all their hand baggage; the recliner seats let the kids nap between Anantnag and Awantipora; the dual rear AC kept the back rows comfortable even while the front was warmed by afternoon sun. A Tempo Traveller, properly chosen and properly driven, is the right vehicle for a Kashmir group of 8–17. The wrong choice — a poorly maintained 17-seater with a driver who earns commission from shawl shops — turns a Kashmir family holiday into a negotiation. We run a fixed-fleet, fixed-salary model specifically to remove that problem.

Our Tempo Traveller fleet consists of six Force Traveller vans (mix of 12-seater and 17-seater configurations) and two Force Urbania luxury vans. All vehicles are under 60,000 km on the odometer, serviced at the authorised Force Motors dealership in Hyderpora, Srinagar, and inspected for mountain-road fitness every 30 days. Kashmir’s roads — specifically the climbs to Gulmarg and the switchbacks above Pahalgam — are not forgiving to vehicles with deferred maintenance. Every vehicle in our Tempo Traveller fleet carries snow chains (September through May), a first-aid kit, and emergency contact stickers for our 24-hour dispatch line.

Why a Tempo Traveller Beats Two Cars for a Group of 10–17

The most common mistake families make when booking Kashmir transport is splitting into two cars. It feels cheaper and more flexible until Day 2, when the convoy loses each other at a Gulmarg roundabout and spends 20 minutes calling each other while the gondola queue moves. With a Tempo Traveller, the group travels as a unit — one driver, one vehicle, one tip to organise, and the freedom for the kids to talk across seats rather than stare at car windows on a 4-hour drive to Pahalgam.

  • Everyone travels together — No convoy coordination, no children separated from grandparents, no timing gaps at attraction entry gates.
  • Single driver relationship — One tip pool, one point of contact, a driver who knows your group’s preferences by Day 2.
  • Boot + roof carrier — 15+ pieces of luggage fit cleanly across a multi-day trip.
  • Lower per-head cost — ₹6,500/day across 11 people = ₹590/person. Two Innova Crystas at ₹4,500/day each = ₹9,000/day = ₹750/person for 12 people. The Tempo Traveller wins on arithmetic.
  • Pull-out tables — On the Force Urbania, the fold-out centre tables convert the cabin into a proper lounge for card games and lunch stops.

12-Seater vs 17-Seater vs Urbania — Which Fits Your Group?

The choice between variants depends on group size, route, and comfort expectations. The 17-seater has more passenger capacity but sacrifices some route flexibility — it cannot navigate the narrow upper roads above Pahalgam town (Aru, Betaab Valley, Chandanwari), and we shift to SUVs for those sections on multi-day packages. The 12-seater and Urbania have better mountain manoeuverability and are the right choice for groups of 8–11 who want flexibility on all routes.

  • Force Traveller 12-seater (1+11) — Standard recliner seats, two AC vents per row, large boot. Best for 8–11 adults. Handles all Kashmir routes including upper Pahalgam side trips. ₹6,500/day.
  • Force Traveller 17-seater (1+16) — Bench-style 3-row layout. Best for 12–16 passengers in budget mode. Reaches Gulmarg base and Sonamarg, but cannot navigate Aru/Betaab/Chandanwari — we shift to two SUVs for those sections at no extra vehicle charge (driver time billed separately). ₹7,200/day.
  • Force Urbania (1+11 luxury) — Recliner captain seats, dual-zone AC, USB charging per seat, larger windows, woodgrain interior panels, significantly quieter cabin. Best for honeymoon groups, corporate retreats, and families where comfort matters more than capacity. ₹8,000–9,500/day.

Sample 6-Day Group Itinerary (15 Pax in 17-Seater)

The 17-seater handles the main Kashmir circuit — Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg — without issue. For the side trips at Pahalgam (Aru Valley, Betaab Valley, Chandanwari), we arrange a fleet of 3 SUVs from the local operators we work with at Pahalgam, included in the package rate. The TT waits at Pahalgam while the SUVs do the valley runs — seamless for the group.

  • Day 1: SXR Airport pickup → houseboat check-in → evening shikara
  • Day 2: Srinagar local sightseeing — Mughal Gardens, Tulip Garden (if in season), old city
  • Day 3: Drive to Gulmarg → Phase I & II gondola → night Gulmarg
  • Day 4: Drive to Pahalgam → shift to 3 SUVs for Aru/Betaab/Chandanwari → night Pahalgam
  • Day 5: Drive to Sonamarg → TT to Sonamarg town, local shared cabs to Thajiwas Glacier → night Srinagar
  • Day 6: Free morning → SXR airport drop

Snow and High-Altitude Route Limits

Kashmir’s mountain terrain creates real limits for large vehicles. We are direct about what our Tempo Travellers can and cannot do, because a breakdown 30 km from Gulmarg on a winter afternoon is not a situation you want to be in with 15 family members.

  • Zojila Pass (Srinagar–Leh): Tempo Travellers are technically allowed in the BRO convoy but we discourage it — switchbacks above Sonamarg are extremely tight for a 17-seater. Use SUVs for Leh-bound transfers.
  • Aru / Betaab / Chandanwari (Pahalgam side trips): 17-seater cannot navigate above Pahalgam town. We switch to local SUVs for these runs.
  • Mughal Road / Sinthan Top: Not recommended for any Tempo Traveller configuration.
  • Gulmarg snow gate: 12-seater handles Gulmarg with snow chains year-round. 17-seater is permitted but slower on the final 2 km.

Frequently Asked Questions — Tempo Traveller in Kashmir

Can a 17-seater Tempo Traveller reach Gulmarg?

Yes, to the Gulmarg base parking area. The road is steep but paved. We fit snow chains in winter. The 17-seater is too long for the upper Pahalgam side trips (Aru, Betaab, Chandanwari) — for those routes we shift to 3 SUVs while the TT waits in Pahalgam town.

Is the Urbania different from a regular Tempo Traveller?

Yes — Force Urbania is Force Motors’ premium platform. Significantly larger windows, recliner captain seats with armrests, USB charging ports at each seat, dual-zone climate control, and a noticeably quieter cabin. The difference is meaningful on a 4-hour drive to Pahalgam. Worth the ₹2,000/day premium for honeymoon groups, corporate teams, or any family where comfort is the priority.

Can we fit a roof carrier for luggage?

Yes — roof carrier is standard equipment on all multi-day Tempo Traveller trips. It is secured with ratchet straps and covered with a waterproof sheet. For single day-trip transfers, luggage goes inside the boot.

Are seatbelts available in all rows?

All seats in our Force Urbania fleet have 3-point seatbelts. Force 12-seater has 3-point belts in the front row and first passenger row. Force 17-seater has lap belts in most positions — not full 3-point in all rows. If you need proper 3-point belts for children in car seats, specify when booking and we’ll assign the Urbania or a 12-seater.

How far in advance should a large group book?

For July and August travel, book 3–4 weeks in advance — our Tempo Traveller fleet is often fully committed during peak season for multi-day packages. For shoulder-season travel (April–June, September–October), 7–10 days is usually sufficient. WhatsApp your dates, group size, and required vehicle type and we’ll confirm within 2 hours.
