Five days is the answer we give every first-time visitor to Kashmir who asks how long they need. Not four days (you’ll feel rushed at every stop). Not seven days (perfectly wonderful, but not everyone can take a week). Five days gives you the Kashmir that most people have in their minds: the shikara morning, the Gondola, the Betaab Valley meadow, the glacier, and the slow evening on the lake watching the mountains turn amber.

Day-by-Day Itinerary: 5 Days in Kashmir
Day 1 — Srinagar: Arrival & Dal Lake
Our driver picks you up at Srinagar Airport. The famous shikara ride on Dal Lake is best done in the late afternoon (4–6pm) when the light is golden. Nishat Bagh or Shalimar Bagh are best visited around 4pm when tour buses have left. Dinner at Mughal Darbar restaurant — Rogan Josh and Dum Aloo.
Local tip: Arrive at Dal Lake by 5:30pm. The half-hour between 5:45pm and 6:15pm, when the mountains glow amber-red, is what people take out their best cameras for.
Day 2 — Gulmarg: Gondola & Snow
Leave Srinagar by 7:30am (56 km, 90 min). Gondola Phase 1 (Gulmarg to Kongdoori, 2,600m to 3,080m): ₹840/adult, ₹640/child. Buy at the automated kiosk. Gondola Phase 2 to Apharwat (3,980m): Go if open and you’re fit. After the Gondola: Gulmarg Biosphere Reserve walk (30-min easy trail, free). Lunch at Hotel Highlands Park. Return by 5pm.
Day 3 — Pahalgam: Valley of Shepherds
Drive 95 km (2.5–3 hours), depart 8am. Betaab Valley (8km from Pahalgam): flat meadow, perfect for families. Entry ₹50 per vehicle. Aru Valley (12km): less visited, more beautiful, views of Kolahoi Glacier. Baisaran: accessible only by pony (30 min ride, ₹500–700 return). Leave Pahalgam by 4pm.
Day 4 — Sonmarg: Meadow of Gold
Drive 80 km (2 hours), depart 7am. Thajiwas Glacier: pony ride from main meadow (45–60 minutes each way). Cost ₹600–800 per person. The Z-Morh Tunnel (opened 2024) now connects Srinagar to Sonmarg year-round — accessible even in January. Leave Sonmarg by 3pm.
Day 5 — Srinagar: Local Exploration & Departure
Morning in Old City: Lal Chowk (central square, historic clock tower). Copper market — Maharaj Gunj (craftsmen hammering copper pots on the street). Government Handicraft Emporium (fixed-price, quality-guaranteed). Shankaracharya Hill temple (244 steps, 360° view). Airport transfer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 5 days enough to see Kashmir properly?
Five days covers the “Golden Four” — Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonmarg — at a comfortable pace. It is the ideal duration for a first visit. For a second visit, we recommend 7+ days to explore Gurez Valley, Doodhpathri, or Bangus Valley.
What is the cost of a 5-day Kashmir package in 2026?
₹14,500–₹35,000 per person depending on accommodation tier. For a couple at Standard tier (3-star hotels + houseboat), total approximately ₹44,000–₹50,000. Airfare, Gondola tickets, and personal expenses are additional.
Should I stay on a houseboat in Kashmir?
Yes — at least 1–2 nights. A houseboat on Nagin Lake is one of the most genuinely unique accommodation experiences in India. We recommend Nagin Lake over Dal Lake for its quieter, more private atmosphere.
