Who we are: a Srinagar cab operator, not an aggregator

My name is from Khanyar in old Srinagar. We’ve been driving the Tangmarg–Gulmarg road since 2014. Our cabs aren’t pulled from a marketplace 30 minutes before your flight lands — they sit in our own yard in Rajbagh, get serviced at our workshop in Hyderpora, and are driven by men whose families we know by name. When you book a cab on this page, you are talking to the person who will hand the keys to your driver tomorrow morning.

That matters in Kashmir more than in any other Indian destination. Roads here close without warning — Zojila in October, Sinthan Top in November, Mughal Road during heavy rain in July. Knowing which way to reroute, which dhaba to wait the snowstorm out at, and which checkpoint to call first — that’s not something an aggregator app can do. It’s what a local operator does.

Popular routes we drive every week

Srinagar Airport (SXR) pickup → Dal Lake houseboat

The shortest drive we do — about 14 km, 35 minutes if Boulevard Road is clear, an hour if there’s a Friday afternoon jam at Tourist Reception Centre. Our driver waits with a placard at Gate 2 of the SXR arrivals exit. The fare for a Dzire is ₹950 fixed; for a Crysta it’s ₹1,400. We track your flight number; if you’re delayed, no extra charge.

Srinagar ↔ Gulmarg full-day cab (with Tangmarg snow gate)

57 km, around 2 hours each way. The Tangmarg–Gulmarg stretch is the one that confuses tourists — in January–February it’s gated, the gate opens around 9 AM after snow clearance, and only chained vehicles get through. We carry snow chains in all our cabs during winter. Day rate for an Innova Crysta to Gulmarg and back, with 4–5 hours of waiting at the gondola, is ₹4,800 all-in.

Srinagar ↔ Pahalgam day return / overnight

96 km via Awantipora, roughly 2.5 hours one way. We stop at Pampore for saffron fields between October and early November. Day-trip rate is ₹4,500 for a Dzire, ₹5,800 for a Crysta. Overnight is just an extra night of driver halt — about ₹500–700 added to the rate.

Srinagar ↔ Sonamarg with Thajiwas detour

87 km, around 2.5 hours. Sonamarg is open from May to mid-November. The road shuts in winter. From Sonamarg town, you’ll change to a local pony or a shared cab to reach the Thajiwas Glacier base — our cab can’t go beyond the army checkpoint. Day rate: ₹4,400 Dzire, ₹5,600 Crysta.

Multi-day Golden Triangle (Srinagar–Gulmarg–Pahalgam–Sonamarg)

Doodhpathri, Yusmarg & Aharbal day trips

The valleys most tourists miss. Doodhpathri is 52 km via Khansahib — see the Doodhpathri day trip page. Yusmarg is 47 km via Charar-e-Sharief. Aharbal is 75 km via Kulgam. Each is ₹3,200–3,800 for a Dzire day, ₹4,500 for an Innova.

What is included in the per-day cab rate (and what is not)

Included: fuel, toll, parking, driver’s salary, driver’s food and accommodation, all permits where applicable, snow chains in winter.
Not included: your hotel, your meals, monument/garden entry tickets, Gulmarg Gondola tickets, pony rides, ATV/sledge rentals, photographer fees, tips (₹200–500/day is the local norm).
GST: 5% on tour operator service if you need a printed invoice for company reimbursement. Mention this at booking — we issue a GSTIN invoice via email.

Driver verification: how we vet every chauffeur

Every driver who works with us goes through a four-step check. We verify their Aadhaar and the J&K Tourism commercial driving badge. We run a police verification through the local thana — done annually. We test-drive them on the Tangmarg–Gulmarg switchbacks and the Awantipora bypass before they take a tourist. And we keep a private rating sheet — three guest complaints and the driver is off our roster, no exceptions.

All our drivers speak Hindi and Kashmiri. About 60% speak workable English. If you need a fluent English-speaking driver — we have 11 on the roster, mention it when you book and we’ll assign one.

Snowfall, road closures and the Kashmir cab playbook

Three roads in Kashmir close every winter — Zojila (Sonamarg to Leh, shut from late October/early November to April), Sinthan Top (Anantnag to Kishtwar, shut October to May), and Mughal Road (Shopian to Bafliaz, shut December to April). The Tangmarg–Gulmarg road never officially closes but the snow gate opens only after morning clearance during Chillai Kalan (Dec 21 – Jan 30).

We watch the J&K Met Department, the BRO Twitter handle, and we have drivers stationed at Pahalgam, Sonamarg and Tangmarg who call us at 6 AM with ground updates. If a road shuts mid-trip, we reroute, no extra charge. Last March we drove a Mumbai family from Sonamarg back to Srinagar through a fresh dump of two-foot snow on the Ganderbal road — chains on all four wheels, four hours instead of two. They reached the houseboat with a story.

Why locals prefer our cab service over OYO / MakeMyTrip ground transfers

Two reasons. First, an aggregator passes your booking through 2–3 sub-contractors before it lands with an actual driver. The cut shrinks at every step, and the man behind the wheel often gets ₹800 out of the ₹1,400 you paid. He’ll deliver — but he’ll also push you toward his cousin’s houseboat or his uncle’s shawl shop because that’s where his real income is. With us, the driver is on a fixed monthly salary plus tip. There’s no upsell pressure.

Second, when something goes wrong — and on Kashmir’s mountain roads it occasionally does — you have a Srinagari phone number to call. Not a Bengaluru call centre at 3 AM.

How much does an Innova Crysta cost per day for Kashmir sightseeing?

₹4,500 to ₹5,000 per day in 2026, all-inclusive (fuel, toll, parking, driver). The Crysta seats 6 adults plus a driver and handles Tangmarg–Gulmarg and Sonamarg–Zojila switchbacks comfortably.

Yes — every driver on our roster lives in J&K. All speak Hindi and Kashmiri. About 11 drivers speak fluent English; if you want one, ask at booking and we’ll assign accordingly.

What happens if Zojila or Sinthan Top is closed due to snow?

If the closure is announced before your trip starts, we reroute via a longer scenic route at no extra charge. If you booked a Srinagar–Leh transfer and Zojila is shut, we refund the unused balance or convert it to a Kashmir-only itinerary.

Do you provide child seats or roof-rack for luggage?

Child seats: yes, two ISOFIX-compatible seats (Britax) for ages 1–4 — book 48 hours ahead, ₹200/day. Roof-rack: standard on every Tempo Traveller and Scorpio; available on request for Innova/Crysta.

Can I pay in cash to the driver, or only online?

20% advance is required online (UPI, bank transfer, or credit card) to confirm. The balance can be paid in cash to the driver at the end of the trip, by UPI on the spot, or transferred to us. Cash on arrival is fine.

Is fuel and toll included in the per-day rate?

Yes. Our per-day rates are all-inclusive of fuel, toll, parking, driver’s food and accommodation. The only extras are your personal hotel, meals, monument tickets, gondola/pony fees and tips.

What is the cancellation policy if my flight is delayed or cancelled?

Free cancellation up to 72 hours before pickup. Inside 72 hours, the 20% advance is held as credit for a future trip (valid 12 months). If your flight is cancelled by the airline, we waive the policy entirely.

Do you give a printed/PDF invoice for company reimbursement?

Yes. We email a GST-compliant PDF invoice with our GSTIN within 24 hours of trip completion. Many of our corporate guests reimburse Kashmir trips through HR — the invoice meets the standard format.
